Weekly Musings of the 25th

Well, busy week for us.  On Monday I went on the Endy website to order a new mattress for hubby.  The one in the former guest room was useless for his back and it was getting worse.  The mattress arrived on Wednesday and in it's box it made hubby keep asking if I was sure I ordered a queen-size, and I knew I did and the box said so.  It was pretty impressive as when you take it out of the box, it is folded in half and then you cut the sealed wrapping and the mattress slowly fills out to it's full size and it was perfect, nice and firm too.  So far hubby has been sleeping well on it (except when the heat bothers him but that is different)

I have decided that come the spring time next year I shall get the same mattress for me.  The offer that came with this mattress was all new bedding which was really perfect, two pillows that were great replacements, mattress liner, sheets and a duvet.  The duvet we don't really need but we shall store it until we figure what to do with it.  Donations are always best.  The only down side with Endy is that they do not take your old mattress away and so that will have to be arranged, especially mine as it is one of those really, really heavy ones.

So, little by little we are fixing up those things that are no longer comfortable or workable for us anymore.

After some great nights of sleep though, the humidity came back.

This morning's walk was pretty tough and such a change from being able to sleep with the windows open to closed windows and fans to move the warm air.  Yesterday I had the fun of catching up with my high school best friend.  We keep it touch by text most days but love to have lunch together at least once a month.  Downside of it was our usual restaurant had no AC which yesterday was not nice at all.  I think I am going to look at the other restaurants in Waterford for an alternate when it is this hot out.  Still it was great to sit and catch up with all our families and news and such and the time flew by.

We did transfer our prescriptions from Shopper's to Superstore especially when we

went Friday to check on the status and they said they didn't have the doctor's order and would get it done for Monday.  I told them they should have gotten it Wednesday but she was positive they didn't.  Funny thing is we got notice it was ready for pick up on Saturday and we know our doctor not in the office on Friday and so how did they get it and get it ready for Saturday?  I think they dropped the ball again.  As well, they had put in for the second prescription to be ready with the missing one and of course after we were home about 10 minutes on Sunday after picking up the first prescription the second prescription notice that it was ready came in.  Tuesday we made the transfer.  Besides we are at the Superstore once a week so it is easier to pick up stuff there.

Going to take a break from my books this week and finish up as there are a couple of errands today that must be done before the buses of workers come to town to do their shopping.  That is just too many people for me.

Have a lovely weekend!

Weekly Musings of the 18th

Whoever said that cats don't have expressions actually never really looked at one.  Honestly, how can you look at that face and not know what she is telling you.

Am going through another fight with Shopper's Drug Mart here.  First one was when the person at the cash told my husband to go home and make an appointment on the computer because he (the clerk) wouldn't do it there.  Also arguing that everyone, but everyone in the whole world has a computer and internet... seriously?!?!?  Second fight was when I went looking to find why my prescription had not been filled to find that I no longer had one of any kind and my doctor did send the renewal a month before.  After spending an hour at the counter finally they filled it, putting it back in my file and then the pharmacist who I had been arguing with tried to tell me how to take this new medication that was just filled (I have been with them for 10 years taking the one and only same pills).  Now, they have lost one of the two that hubby takes.  We called the doctor who sent in a renewal, who was surprised that Shopper's had not sent the request.  That was Wednesday and as of yet - no prescription for hubby.  We will be going there today to argue that out.  Once we have all prescriptions there and filled we are going to change pharmacies because, honestly, three strikes and you are out in my book.

I am playing with a new app called Picture This

which now I know that the tree we called a tulip looking tree is actually a Saucer Magnolia and the tree we call that poofy one is a Smoketree but the one I walk by each morning is apparently sick.

So far I can use this app without paying for a subscription or anything.  Yeah, there are ads and it keeps asking me to sign up but for what I want it for, I don't need to buy anything.  I just want to know what some of the plants are on my morning walk are.

And it is official now that hubby and I sleep in separate rooms.  Hubby took over the middle room and as of yesterday has moved his clothes as well.  We have just gotten to the age that we don't sleep very well together.  He is too hot, I tend to kick him in my sleep, I like it too cold in the room, he likes lots of blankets and I don't.  Visiting, of course is always fine - LOL.  It is funny because at this point in his life it is the very first time that he has ever had a room for himself.  He has shared a room with someone for his entire life until now that he is 78.  Even when he was very young there was always a relative sharing a room with him.  I think he is enjoying being on his own for once.

Got to catch up with my sister this week too on Discord, which is always nice.  Her household is so busy that it is hard for us to be able to get together but this was a good week for it.  The repairs still go on with the hurricane damage and of course much of it is not covered by the insurance company for various excuses and then everything they do needs a permit as well.  What a huge job to manage but my sister is amazing at it.

So this week I am covering the 2nd book in the

Wives of David -

 '
What price must she pay for true love?

Her days marked by turmoil and faded dreams, Abigail has resigned herself to a life with a man she does not love. But when circumstances offer her a second chance at happiness with the handsome David, she takes a leap of faith to join his wandering tribe. Still, her struggles are far from over. How can she share his love with the other women he insists on marrying?

Abigail follows the bestselling Michal and continues Jill Eileen Smith's rich story of David's wives.'

Yes, another really great read, with her research of the times as well and deeply meditating on how a woman would think or handle these situations makes this so good and hard to put down.

And so another week flying by, I even got a reminder of a anniversary in August already - wow, that was quick.

And this funny just made me laugh -

Have a wonderful weekend my friends.

Weekly Musings of the 11th

Wow, another week flying by again.  Hot, hazy and humid as well.  Although a few nights were below 20C so that was okay.  I find that I am great when it comes to the daytime heat as long as it goes below 20C and I can open my window while sleeping.  When it is too hot and I have to keep them closed, I am not a fan.

This morning was very foggy during my morning walk so I was careful not to be on busy streets but walk some quiet neighbourhoods.  This picture is of a sunset on Wednesday, I just found the pink so pretty.

We finally took the car in to get the lock fixed on the passenger door, it had disconnected from the other three and when locking the car it made a weird sound and only three doors locked and we had to do the old-fashioned way of pulling up or pushing down the lock.  Something we were not in a rush to fix because it could be handled although the noise was pretty loud and weird all the time.

Been a pretty quiet week here and that was nice, lots of reading which I love.  Chatted with DD the 1st and it was nice to catch up.  She  has settled into their new place and it sounds like the boyfriend and her are doing well together.

They really have similar tastes and their place is looking more and more like home to them.

Hubby is taking advantage of the guest room now and we are slowly making it his room.  With his back, feeling cold most times and me feeling hot and moving a lot in my sleep (one time kneeing him really hard in the back) we were keeping each other from getting good night sleep.  He was most nights sleeping on the floor on a foam mattress and although that was working now, not too great for long term, who wants to get up and down from the floor when one is in their 80s.  We talked about it and decided to see about a really good mattress for his back (the one in the middle room is okay for now but will need replacing soon) and making the guest room more his room so that both of us can sleep well.  We discussed big projects for the future, not things that have to be done this year but within the next 3 to 5 years but this time we wrote them down.  Memory being what it is for both of us, it is nice to have them noted down.  You know that great thing about saying - I don't have to write it down, I will remember.  - Yeah right.

It is right up there with -

Today I am off soon to get my short hair trimmed and boy am I loving this cut.  I don't have to use any hairspray, I don't even have to blow dry it if it is too hot outside and my hearing aids are not brushed by my hair which can be really annoying.  Looking forward to the trim.

The book this week is another by new most favourite author.  New meaning I just discovered her.

'Zara and Noah have walked together with the Creator for their entire lives, and they have done their best in an increasingly wicked and defiant world to raise their three sons to follow in their footsteps. It has been a challenge--and it's about to get much, much harder.

When the Creator tells her husband to build an ark to escape the coming wrath against the sins of humankind, Zara steps out with him in faith. But the derision and sabotage directed their way from both friends and extended family are difficult to bear, as is knowing that everyone she interacts with beyond her husband, her sons, and their wives is doomed to destruction. And when the ark is finally finished and the animals have been shut up inside, Zara and her family embark on an adventure that will test their patience and their faith as they await deliverance and dry ground.

Experience the story of Noah and the flood like you never have before. With bestselling and award-winning author Jill Eileen Smith as your guide, you'll never look at a rainbow the same way again.'

Again, another really great read and really thought provoking.  This takes a part of the bible and through the author's imagination expands it and makes you think deeper on this event.

Well, that was the week that was and I hope you had a nice one.
Here is my usual ending funny -

I really do have that skill now.

Weekly Musings of the 4th

Wow, here we are in July already.  June was spent by DD the 1st getting settled in London and her stuff all together and finally unpacked.  All things went well and now she and her partner are enjoy a more settled time together.

I avoided shopping the weekend or the Monday before Canada Day as it seems that people lose their minds over the idea of stores closed for one single day.  I know from the crowds that most don't remember all stores being closed on Sunday and in our area, closed Wednesday afternoon too.  Monday could be iffy too - LOL.

Canada Day was just a perfect day for all the festivities and we were happy to just tuck here at home and enjoy the view from the balcony and letting CBC share all the fun across the country.  I found that YouTube has the whole evening show complete with the fireworks and thought I would put the link here if you are interested.  Sarah McLachlan, Amanda Marshall, Roch Voisine and Mitsou were there among many, many more.  It is always quite a show.

I also liked that with YouTube you can just FF to the person you want to watch or to the end for the Fireworks (which is always a favourite of mine)

The next day we headed out to shop and it wasn't bad now that all were either gone on holidays or back to work.  We had an appointment yesterday which gave us a great excuse to enjoy lunch out and here we are on Friday already.

The book to feature this week was published in 1970 and was a bargain on BookBud which was too good to pass up.

New York Times Bestseller: A “beautifully written” and “truly outstanding” novel based on the life of Paul the Apostle (The Cincinnati Enquirer).

Born a veritable great lion of God to a devout Jewish family, Saul of Tarsus is raised by his parents to embrace their love of humanity. Dogged by what he perceives as a lack of true faith, he embarks on a journey to save his people from sacrilege. But on the road to Damascus a vision of the resurrected Jesus changes the course of his life. Converting to Christianity, the newly christened Paul transforms from persecutor of blasphemers into apostle to the gentiles, becoming one of the supreme influences on the Catholic Church and the Western world.

Great Lion of God paints a unique and very human portrait of Saint Paul, one of the most passionate, dauntless, and complex figures of early Christianity—Pharisee, lawyer, theologian, and above all, a “man like ourselves with our own despairs, doubts, anxieties and angers and intolerances, and ‘lusts of the flesh.’”

The central novel in author Taylor Caldwell’s biblical trilogy, which also includes
Dear and Glorious Physician and I, JudasGreat Lion of God is both “sheer entertainment” and a moving tribute to the majesty and power of the Christian faith (Fort Worth Star-Telegram).

Now I had in my youth a bit of trouble getting into Taylor Caldwell's books but of course time does change one and this time I really enjoyed her writing.  Between her writing and the great price it was certainly worth it.  Very good book to read.

Enjoy your weekend and Happy 4th to my southern friends and family.

Here is a blast from the past (ours had a radio in it too)

Weekly Musings of the 15th

So another week flew by and I blinked and nearly missed it - LOL.  Well, I did get to meet up with my girlfriend and catch up once more.  ...
