One of the mornings I decided it would be smarter to go for my 30 minute walk with a mask on which helped a lot.
This morning was finally cooler but the smoke is still hanging around. On top of that just down the highway from us a barn fire happened which killed 20,000 hogs, a devastating loss to the farmer and his family.
The sun has looked like this for 3 days now.
As to the lines of the parking lot, well, after seeing what they painted I have a new name for our 2 apartment buildings - The Half Done Apartments. Everything they have done lately has been only half. They painted the hallways and doors but not the stairs nor the step into the apartments, they remain in the stairs - two colours ago and on the step one colour ago. Oh, and they still have not put any numbers on the doors yet. They say they are waiting for a template.... seriously?!?! They are numbers, how tough can that be?
They paved only half the parking lot and therefore only painted half the lines. Not even all the newly paved area, only the front part. The baseboard carpet in the hallways they pulled out for the painting over 5 years ago and still have not put them in again nor changed the hallway carpets nor cleaned them as they say they don't need to clean them as they are replacing them.... not sure what decade they plan to do that. The owners of the buildings live in another city so really not that important that things get finished. Reason we stay? Simple we moved in when the rent was reasonable and will stay until it isn't and keep our home clean and maintained behind our door.
Didn't take a picture of the lines yet but this is the only area that they are painted.
Okay enough of the rant of the Half-Done Apartments.
Since we like breathing without smoke in the air we stayed home and of course I curled up with another amazing book. This series is one of the very best I have read. I told you of the first one how the author wrote from the Egyptian point of view instead of from Moses's side which was such a different way and made it such a great read. This one too was even better.
This one was the 3rd of 6 and I started the next one. If it is as good as the first three I can't wait to get into the story.
Well, that was the week, pretty much of a stay put and keep the A/C on and windows shut. I am hoping that through the weekend rain will come and winds to dispel the smoke and the heat and next week will be fresher.
Today we are off to the reserve for our monthly trip - probably with the windows closed and the air on in the car to keep the smoke out.

Oh, well! I like your philosophy... stay at the reasonable priced place until it becomes unreasonable. There is a cost to always being on the hunt, too!
ReplyDeleteThat smoky air looks awfully uncomfy, and I'm glad you had the option to mask for your walk. Over the 4th of July there was the extra smoke of fireworks down here, but since then, it's cleared off and got better, thank goodness. Praying for the fire risk to the west of us to tamp down. We've had a few rains to keep things at least not as badly dried out.
Came hunting for your blog after posting mine this morning, it wasn't in my reading list yet, but as we've commented before... we know when to come hunting!

Me too, I had to hunt up yours and Paula's but got there and caught up too. We sure do know when to come hunting. The smoke seems to be slowly going away although 'he who shall no be named' says we are doing it on purpose sending it down your way... oh, well at least smart people know that is not how it works. DeleteOh wow, what a week you’ve had. I am so, so sorry to hear about that awful barn fire down the highway. That is just heartbreaking for the farmer and the family, on top of already dealing with all that heavy, miserable wildfire smoke. Good for you for wearing a mask on your walk, though—it’s crazy that you even had to, but you definitely have to protect your lungs when the air gets that nasty yellow color. Hopefully that rain and wind you're wishing for rolls in soon to finally clear things out and give you some fresh air.
ReplyDeleteThe "Half-Done Apartments" honestly cracked me up, though. Waiting for a template for door numbers? You just have to make your own space a little sanctuary and ignore the chaos outside the front door. At least the indoor confinement gave you the perfect excuse to fly through those books. That series sounds seriously incredible, and finding a perspective like that makes a historical story so much more gripping. Have a safe, air-conditioned trip to the reserve, and I hope you get to relax and breathe a little easier this weekend. (((BIG HUGS)))
Thanks for coming by Paula and saying hi. The nasty yellow colour is pretty nearly gone although when the wind blows one can still smell a bit of the smoke. Yeah, The Half-Done Apartments just tickle my funny bone too, hubby and I have lived in apartments all of our marriage and we know what to do dealing with landlord companies which is a big help. Most times unless it is a problem within ones home just let it be for one's peace of mind. I know many of our neighbours who just get upset about everything and constantly complain to anyone who will listen which only hurts them and doesn't solve anything. Anyway, we had a good drive to the reserve and back not too smoky and so far so good. Huge hugs my friend.
