Hello my friends and family! I hope I haven't lost you all with my absence of late. The weeks had settled into quite a routine and I was thinking that I could just write ditto on each musings.
Funny thing is the longer I stayed away the more I missed reading blogs from friends and just writing my thoughts down. It was the more I put down the less I seem to have rattling around my head - LOL. And I think it was getting a bit full.
I am so happy that I am able to get out first thing for my rosary walk. With beads in hand and walking clothes on I am out the door at 7 before I get even a chance to talk myself out of it. It seems that the longer I am awake and thinking about when to get out the door the more excuses that I can come up with. Rolling out of bed, throwing on my clothes and heading out before fully awake works every time.
I even seem to have an audience most mornings too. So, life goes on and I had to get firm at my dentist office this time. I was suppose to have my appointment today but they had called last Tuesday and asked if I could come in Friday as they had a cancellation. I am pretty easy going about these things so I said sure. Do you ever find that a place that you have been going to for years gets pretty easy going with you and figures you will go along no matter what? On Friday they called about 8:30 and asked if I could be there for 9. That, I said, I can't do. Since retiring I may get out early for my walk but getting cleaned up, dressed and fed is a much slower pace, which is why I make all appointments after 10. I no longer rush for nobody. I think that we have done enough rushing here and there in our youth that once a person is over 60 they should no longer rush if at all possible.
Anyway, I said I would be there as soon as I could. Well, I got there and was
hustled down to the lower rooms for my cleaning. No check up, this girl was a temp. She was pleasant enough but very, very new to the profession. I also, don't think she was shown all the tools that this practice has for cleaning and polishing. She used a series of dental picks and for an hour she worked hard on my teeth. Thank goodness I floss, as there was not as much as there could have been. At one point she tried to use cotton in my mouth to dab the blood she had caused. Yes, there was blood from where she stabbed my gums and the inside of my cheek. On my chart it says to not put material in my mouth because it causes me to gag. She didn't see it. Finally when I had gotten to the point to say - enough! She was finished after doing a very poor polishing job on a machine she had not been shown how to use. I really did feel for her, coming into a place for the first time and not being shown what there was for her to use. I am sure she will get better in time but for me I was done.
If you read my earlier blog in September you know that visit was not the best either. When I went to reception, she asked if I would like to make my next appointment and I said no, I would be calling my previous hygienist who opened her own practice to make my next appointment. The receptionist asked why, and I replied that I normally don't bleed during a cleaning. At that moment I was going to completely break down so I turned and left.
Funny thing was that morning I got a card in the mail from my old hygienist about her new practice, it was one of those mass mail-outs but I grabbed it when I got home and called her right away and made my September appointment with her.
Another funny thing was I haven't heard a word from my dentist office but I did fill out their survey form with my experience. I think when my hygienist says I need to see the dentist I am going to insist on MY dentist, the one we started with and not one of those who have been joining him. I think it might have gotten a little too big and busy over the years.
So, my mouth took several days to heal from the cleaning and there are spots that are still tender but lesson learned as it is one thing to be pleasant and helpful but one doesn't have to put up with poor treatment because of it.
And, that is what is in my head this week. I am sure there will be new stuff pouring out once more soon. Below is a t-shirt I saw that made me laugh out loud.
I hope you have a lovely week!

ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your misadventure with the dentist. But, great to see that you are back with your blog.
These things happen but I figure it was so that I would give my business to my original hygienist and I will.

ReplyDeleteI've been with my dentist('s office) since I was 18. The first dentist who didn't hurt me. He has since retired and there have been many changes in the office. One thing that has remained is the 2 flights of stairs to get to the office. Unfortunately, my knees have changed. Maybe time to find a dentist on one level.
Our one in Ottawa was the same. I was happy to find one in Simcoe that was as good as him (I am sure he is retired too). I just hope this one doesn't move on here. Good luck finding another that makes you happy on the first floor or with an elevator.

ReplyDeleteToo bad you had such a hard time , Alicia. I’ve been with my dentist for over 40 years. The original dentist was wonderful , but he has since retired. Now there’s a dentist and an Associate, both very caring, competent and kind. My hygienist is extremely competent and very caring. She knows that I tend to gag , so she’s very careful when I need Xrays. The whole staff is wonderful, and the receptionists are friendly and so kind. I always say that I enjoy going to the dentist, and they have a good laugh. They have installed an electric chair if a patient needs it. During the holidays, I bring candies and baked goods and they say that they enjoy it without feeling guilty, it’s not that you indulge daily.
I love such a philosophy.👍

Antonietta Mariani Thank you Antonietta, our old dentist in Ottawa was like that too. We knew everyone there and thought we found one here in Simcoe like that. There have been a lot of changes here and I am not so sure I am a fan of it. Thank the good Lord that my hygienist has opened up her own practice and I can go there. I bet they love those baked goods from you too!
Oh, my goodness! First, thanks for commenting on the blog I posted yesterday because it joggled my elbow to come look for this one! I missed it last week and it got pushed off page one of the blogs I follow!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a positive nightmare of a dental appointment. You know how you said we seem to be alike (at least from what we write in these blogs)... I'm a "give them a break" on the first not so great experience, and "vote with my feet" on the second. This seems to match you in this particular case.
I am glad you got the break you needed, and I did, too. I have a sister (named Alicia, interesting coincidence) who also keeps up with me by reading my blogs. And I know I'll get a phone call from another certain former Sparker if I go too long on a break, just to make sure I'm still breathing. Yes, we are sisters from different misters, my friend!
Now on to this week's reading! p.s. Love the photo of your audience on the roof, and sky pictures are always a hit!
Yes, that is me too. I give them a break the first time and after the second if nothing is better then I am gone. I read about your sister and always smile especially that we both spell our name right. Too many weird spellings now - LOL. When someone says something about my name, I always say - I have had it longer than most. Have a wonderful day.
