Favourite Christmas Carols - Do You Hear What I Hear?
So here is December and also the beginning of Advent. I love the four weeks of Advent and this year because the first Sunday was the 1st of December it is exactly 25 days this year. That doesn't happen too often.
A blogger friend of mine puts up holiday questions and answers and asks her friends to answer the questions too and I do but had yet to share the questions and answers here but I am going to spread them out and put memories and reasons too.
The first one is favourite holiday song and I will put my top favourite over the weeks until Christmas. The first one is 'Do You Hear What I Hear?' but only by Bing Crosby. Others have done this song and they do okay but Bing managed a power behind the words that really made the song way more powerful than any other artist.
Here are the words of the song and I will share the YouTube video of his performance and you may see what I mean.
Do you hear what I hear?
Said the night wind to the little lamb
Do you see what I see?
(Do you see what I see?)
Way up in the sky, little lamb
Do you see what I see?
(Do you see what I see?)
A star, a star, dancing in the night
With a tail as big as a kite
With a tail as big as a kite
Said the little lamb to the shepherd boy
Do you hear what I hear?
(Do you hear what I hear?)
Ringing through the sky, shepherd boy
Do you hear what I hear?
(Do you hear what I hear?)
A song, a song high above the trees
With a voice as big as the sea
With a voice as big as the sea
Said the shepherd boy to the mighty king
Do you know what I know? (Do you know what I know?)
In your palace warm, mighty king
Do you know what I know? (Do you know what I know?)
I love this one, too. I got a book one year, accompanied by a CD of Handel's Messiah, that takes you through a piece for each day of advent... time to pull that out again!
There are many recorded versions. No one compares to Bing Crosby. 🎼🎼
ReplyDeleteExactly, I have listened to so many hoping that perhaps someone will be able to match it, no one so far.

ReplyDeleteOh that sounds lovely! Enjoy! This is the time of year that traditions touch the heart the most.
