Weekly Musings of the 13th

You know one thing I keep musing on especially as this week went on is how liberal people tell me how open minded and accepting they are.  It only lasts until I disagree with something they tell me as fact and I know it isn't or not the whole story.  That open mind snaps shut in an instant and anger and nasty actions happen greater than any bully I faced in school.  Funny how that is.  The most closed minded people I have heard from are those who tell me that they accept everyone in a live and let live attitude, well as long as they live and let live exactly like they do.

Anyway, enough of my little rant.  I did get an item that I think is an amazing plus in our home as more and more things need charging from watches to our cat's brush to phone to tablets and everything in between.

It is this guy, I got it from Amazon, in fact, I ordered 3 of them.  One for my room, one for hubby's room and one for the livingroom.  Each room has things charging at any given time and this thing is amazing.  I don't have to search for a free plug to plug a cord in.  I was actually running out of those.  Items will give you a cord but they no longer include a plug most times.  It also has a power surge protector in it so that items charging are protected in case of a power surge happening during a storm.

Hubby added lights to his village and I think it is amazing.  You see the little street lights, that is the roll of paper at the end of those little sacks you get at the dollar store.  The top where the light is a toothbrush protector.  I think that is pretty clever and I would never have thought of using those items to make a street light.

Yesterday morning we went to hubby's favourite hobby shop and just in time too.

Turns out the owners are retiring and due to many things the store will be closing about mid-October.  Sad to see it go but we hope to visit them one more time before they close the doors.  We did learn from the owner that they also had a break in where someone drove their truck into their window and stole the remote cars.  Nothing else, just the cars.  Sad to see this happening in so many places to so many small business.  Those that do it think that insurance will cover it, but it doesn't completely nor does it fix the damage nor the loss of faith in their community that such a violation causes.

After we spent as much time as hubby wanted including picking up an engine at an amazing low price plus 25% off we went over to my favourite shop.

Which is only about a block away from hubby's place.  I only looked at a couple of areas because they have just so much from wool, to puzzles, to decorations, calendars, clothing and so much more it is impossible to see everything nor to get all you wish in one visit.  After stocking up on a few puzzles and finding my next year calendar that I wasn't expecting to find yet, we stopped looking around before we got too many things.  We both promised each other that we would come back soon to both shops.  Because of the construction that had torn up the entire downtown we used waze to find a different and much more relaxing drive.  We plan to use that route even when the construction is done because it was just such a beautiful country drive.

I also did two new veggie dishes this week and both were a huge success that they will become regulars in my supper planning.  One even had one of the two veggies that I have never liked, I did like it this way.  Then again hubby got a surprise when it was recommended that he have yogurt on a regular basis and he decided to try it and lo and behold - he liked it.  Surprised the heck out of him too.  So, slowly but surely our eating habits are getting better and better.  Although according to all of hubby's blood work his numbers are amazingly great including his cholesterol.  This one doctor was completely stunned at that and I think a bit jealous too - LOL.  Me?  not so much, even though we eat the same things, I keep everything inside -

 My body assumes this -

Anyway, that was the week that was and here is to another week ahead.

  1. This post is jammed pack with all kinds of super info! I'm definitely going to visit Amazon and order that cool charging station.
Hubby's creativity is ingenious. His trash to treasure idea is brilliant!
What are the veggie dishes? As a true carnivore, I work to add more veggies to my diet. I'm not asking for the recipes, just the names.
It's wonderful that hubby got in a visit to the hobby store before it closed. Sad state of affairs. It seems that destructive theft is everywhere. Years ago we moved to the boonies to avoid those happenings. Now...they are everywhere. It's rare that I visit a brick and mortar store. Online shopping provides many options. I've convinced myself (deceptively no doubt) that grocery pick up is safer.
And now, after going down that rabbit hole, it's time to stop.
Have a wonderful Saturday and a peace filled week head. 🤗💖

    1. It is a real game changer those stations, here is what it is called -
USB Wall Charger, Power Strip with 5 Outlet Extender 4 USB Charging Ports (1 USB C, 4.5A Total) 3-Sided 1800J Surge Protector Power Bar Multi Plug Outlets Wall Adapter Spaced for Home Travel Office
Copy and paste will probably work the best. I, too, really have to work to get veggies in. These ones are in the Red and White Better Homes and Gardens cookbook. I figured you might have this book (a lot of people seem to) one is called Breaded Veggies (pg 514) and the other Glazed Parsnips and Carrots (pg 515) Parsnips are the veg I usually avoid. Me too, when it comes to avoiding shopping, I manage to stick to once a week only. Saw a great welcome mat at Mary Maxim that just says 'People tolerated'. It was pretty tempting - LOL. Hubby was pretty tickled that you said he was brilliant. I think it made his day. You too, have a peace filled week.

  2. OMG, you hit the nail on the head about people who say they are open-minded. I find it to be true on both "fringes" of the spectrum, too. Except that nowadays it seems that those on the far right have quit pretending to be open-minded, as they have power at the moment.

Moderate voices who are truly "in the middle" keep shrinking, as a group. Hey, what a great diet idea? If we keep ourselves "in the middle" with our girth shrink, too? (Sorry, had to inject humor, there is too much sad this week!)

Whatever I may feel about the opinions on various sides, there is a human situation here that is very, very sad.

Hope that you are able to muse in safety and peace!

  3. Exactly and the sad thing is that they seem to push past that someone was murdered, that his wife and children will not see him again this side of heaven. Then again that gets ignored a lot sadly. I need humor in these things too and thanks for making me smile. You too, safety and peace. Thanks for stopping by.
